  Future trends in vehicle dynamics

June 2008

PSA Peugeot Citroën

Pascal Hénault, vice-president of research and innovation

"Sensitivity and precision characterise PSA’s vehicle dynamics. We’ve always had expertise in designing cars where the driver can put the car on the curve exactly where he wants.

Peugeot 308: Multilink is not necessary, says PSA

"For Citroen we have precision with a certain quaintness in the way the car behaves. For Peugeot it’s more precise still and a sportier driving feeling that we fine-tune.

"Electric steering systems are very efficient for CO2 because when you are on a straight line, the system doesn’t consume anything. And you can also have a lot of other features. When you are braking on different surfaces, you can correct the line with the electric steering, instead of going right or left. We’re not looking at active steering systems though – the cost benefit is not there.

"We have pioneered electric steering systems in the B-segment and if you compare our system with other OEMs’, it’s day and night. It will spread across our range in the years to come.

"We’re using multi-link suspensions for our top of the range products like the C5, but we think that on other type of vehicles we can achieve the same comfort level but using twist beam rear axles. It costs less and gives 80 per cent of the benefits of a multilink."
