  Future trends in vehicle dynamics

June 2008

Infiniti

Nicolas Tschann, product manager

"Infiniti is trying to deliver an “inviting feel” – a high level of driving pleasure by delivering a high level of confidence to the driver. This is achieved through a linear steering feel. That means a progressive weight build up to enhance track ability – non-linear steering feel is difficult to track mentally while driving.

Infiniti G37: weight is key factor

"Quick damping decay and high body rigidity give a tight feel to the car and minimum roll gives a flat ride feel with few parasitic movements .

"We’re mastering the balance between body dynamics and damping using good simulation tools. In the future four-wheel active steer, active damping, dual flow path shock absorbers and weight reduction will help.

"Weight is a key factor. It’s better to reduce weight from day one rather to invent sophisticated systems such as active roll management to compensate for drawbacks later on.

"We have no plans to introduce torque vectoring. The FX50 combines a Rear Active Steer system combined with intelligent all wheel drive system – the first of its kind in an SUV. It helps generate nimble steering response at low speeds and enhance stability at high speeds."
