Mitsubishi brings PSA models into Dutch factory

27 March 2008

Mitsubishi is to transfer production of the Peugeot 4007 and Citroën C-Crosser that it makes for the PSA group from its Mizushima factory in Japan to the NedCar plant in the Netherlands – where the vehicles are destined to be sold in Europe.

The move follows the decision late last year to site all Europe-bound production of Mitsubishi's own Outlander model, on which the two PSA vehicles are based, to the Dutch factory.

The Mitsubishi-badged vehicles will be produced by NedCar from August 2008, while the Peugeot and Citroën models will be made there from January 2009.

NedCar currently builds the Colt series of cars, but that takes up only 25,000 out of a capacity of 90,000 vehicles at the plant.

Peugeot and Citroën SUVs not destined for Europe will continue to be built in Japan, but will come from Mitsubishi's Nagoya plant instead of the Mizushima factory.

Mitsubishi claims to have sold 60,000 Outlanders in Europe between January 2007 and February 2008.
