Johnson Controls sets up Chinese factory with Chery

16 April 2008

Johnson Controls has opened a joint venture factory with carmaker Chery in China to produce automotive interiors, including instrument panels and consoles.

Johnson Controls (Wuhu) Automotive Interiors is a joint venture between the Johnson Controls group, Chery Technology and Shanghai Jiehua Automobile Decorative Research Centre. The company has a registered capital of $12.75 million and its first factory has taken $30 million of investment.

The 11,000 square metre plant uses Johnson Controls technology and is also intended to provide research resources to help the development of Chery's own group-wide manufacturing processes.

It has been set up for low energy usage and low environmental impact, with an energy-saving system that uses solar heating to cut energy costs by 15 to 25 per cent from US norms.
