Trelleborg takes on Dow's Autothane materials

5 March 2009

Trelleborg Automotive has taken on the licence to manufacture Dow Hyperlast's Autothane range of advanced elastomers for applications in chassis areas.

Autothane is an advanced polyurethane closed cell MDI material that has uses in areas such as noise vibration and harshness control and ride and handling characteristics. It is used in suspension systems, and has good resistance to water, salt, oils and extremes of temperature.

Trelleborg intends to use the material to develop its suspension product portfolio. Wade Singler, business development manager, said: "The Autothane licence enables us to provide a more durable PU product for jounce bumper, top strut, spring seat, body mount and suspension bush applications."

Trelleborg will have exclusive manufacturing rights for North and South America and for Europe, and non-exclusive rights for asia.
